Upcoming Events No Events FoundTSAFF Member, I know that many TSAFF members will be voting in the March 1st Republican Primary election. If you happen to be one of these members, please be advised of the following information about Proposition #3. When you go to the polls on March 1st for the Republican Primary several propositions will be on the ballot. PLEASE PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO PROPOSITION #3. These propositions are not binding, nor do they become law just because they pass on this ballot. However, if they do pass, they will more than likely become part of the Republican-party platform and agenda that will be pursued in the upcoming legislative session. As part of the Republican platform, I believe that it will increase the amount of pressure placed on our Republican Legislators to pass this type of legislation during the session. Proposition 3 is aimed directly at YOU! You can read it for yourself, but it is a measure to direct employers to stop having your union dues deducted from your paycheck. It is a measure intended to weaken the ability of your Local and State Association to do business and force us to spend our time trying to collect dues instead of working to protect your pensions and other benefits. We often hear our Republican State Legislators complain about government overreach by Washington yet, out of the other side of their mouths, they want to tell you what you can and cannot do with YOUR money. If this is not government overreach, I’m not sure what is. Current state law specifically allows the governmental agencies to pass on any costs, associated with these deductions, to us. So, it does not cost the taxpayers one red cent for our payroll deductions. Make no mistake about it, this is an attack on labor and more specifically, an attack on YOU! I would encourage you to contact your local Republican legislator and express to them, your opposition to Proposition 3. If you are voting in the Republican Primary, I strongly recommend that you vote AGAINST Proposition 3 and encourage your friends and family to do the same. (Proposition 3) Texas should prohibit governmental entities from collecting dues for labor unions through deductions from public employee paychecks. Proposición 3 Texas debe prohibir que las entidades gubernamentales recauden cuotas beneficiosas para las uniones laborales por medio de deducciones a los cheques de pago de empleados públicos.
